All you wanted to know about The Billboard Music Awards and the 2015 nominees

The “2015 Billboard Music Awards” will once again take over Las Vegas on this Sunday and this year the show will showcase music's hottest and biggest stars.  The Billboard Music Award is an honor given by Billboard magazine, a publication and music popularity chart covering the music business. The Billboard Music Awards show had been held annually since 1989 in December until it went dormant in 2007. The awards returned in 2011 and are held annually in May.

From 1989 to 2006, the show had the same categories and category names every year. In 2011, for the first time, all of the awards were renamed to "Top [award title]". The "of the year" portion of each category title no longer exists, and many of the awards have been further renamed. Other awards, including both "crossover" awards (No. 1 Classical Crossover Artist and No. 1 Classical Crossover Album) were discontinued.

So how are the Billboard music awards different from other awards?

Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of March 10, 2014 through March 8, 2015.

So there you have it. There is an award show to let the public know what songs/albums/musicians are the most popular. After all there should be favorites and also those songs that really don’t make it to the chart. The Billboard Music Awards fills this gap to let you know all about a song if it should be a chart or something……..
