Korea Cultural Centre announces 3rd edition of K-POP in India

If you thought the only Korean music export to the world was Psy and his world famous Gangman Style song, you really haven’t heard much of Korean music.

Korean Cultural Centre, recently announced the 3rd edition of globally popular music phenomenon, K-POP 2014 festival in India. The upcoming edition of K-POP 2014 India festival will be more exciting and entertaining than the previous season as this time auditions are happening on larger scale and across India. The cities which will witness the grandeur and craze of K- POP will be Chennai, Dimapur, Mumbai and New Delhi. The extravagant K-POP 2014 India finale will be held in Delhi on 30th August 2014 at Siri Fort Auditorium.

K-POP is the popular music genre from South Korea, consisting dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R & B, etc. The K-POP musical movement started in Korea in 1990s and has boomed the world through ‘Korean Wave’. Today, K-POP has entrenched itself as a bona fide phenomenon in Asia and is rapidly extending its reach to new markets.

K-POP is a musical genre originally from South Korea,  characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements, the term is more often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music covering mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc. K-POP Contest provides a unique platform for all to prove their mettle in Korean singing and dancing.

Announcing the auditions, Mr. Kim Kum-pyoung, Director, Korean Cultural Centre, stated, “K-POP fever has amplified in India and we were over whelmed by the enthusiasm of the people last year. We are expecting K-POP 2014 to be one of the most sensational events of the year.”

He further added,‘Korean Wave’ has helped built craze for K-POP sensation across the world. It’s the ultimate platform to showcase the talent and personality of very gifted performer chosen from all corners of India! 

For participating in the auditions, contestants can upload their videos from 5th June till 13th July at K-POP official page i.e. www.kpopindia.com.

The winning teams will be awarded all expenses paid trip to South Korea, sponsored by Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) and Korea Tourist Organization (KTO). They will also get an opportunity to perform in the K-POP World Festival in Changwon.

Eminent jury members will arrive in each city on the audition day (enclosed below) to identify the best talent who will then be invited to the finale in Delhi.

5th July - Mumbai - Grace Banquets, P D Hinduja Rd, Khar West Mumbai

26th July – Dimapur - IMC Hall, Dimapur

29th July – Chennai - American International School, Chennai

2nd August – New Delhi – Korea Cultural Centre
