Percussionist to the stars and Hollywood, now an author

Pete Lockett, long regarded as one of the go‐to guys when top class percussion is needed, has decided to step out from behind his drum kit and beat the keys of his laptop as well. The result is a remarkable new novel destined to make a noise in the Best Seller lists. 'A Survivor’s Guide to Eternity' is a mind‐bending journey into the afterlife that immediately demands comparison with Carlos Castaneda or Aldous Huxley. Exploring deep philosophical constructs, but skilfully lightened with the humour of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, Lockett manages to create a work that will both challenge and entertain.

“We were swept away when Pete presented his manuscript to us,” said Sarah Luddington, Mirador Publishing’s Commissioning Editor. “It’s very rare to see a new author prepared to tackle something like this with such confidence with their first novel.”

Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel, Bjork and even James Bond have all called on Pete’s skills from at one time or another.

James Bond?

“Yes, I arranged and recorded all the ethnic percussion for five Bond movies and many other Hollywood blockbusters,” said Pete. “They were a lot of fun.”

His list of credits reads like a Who’s Who of the music industry: Dido, Bill Bruford, Jeff Beck, A.R.Rahman, The Verve, Texas, Pet Shop Boys, Dido, Kodo, Amy Winehouse, and many more. And when he’s not working with other musicians or Hollywood Studios, he’s busy on his own music and has released nearly twenty CDs under his own name.

Asked how he found time to write a full length novel amongst all his other activities, Pete replied, “I wrote it on numerous planes and tour buses, in recording studio lounges, lying beside the river Ganges with a laptop, in a sushi bar in Tokyo with an iPad, reclining backstage before a show, on a train in China and in many other unusual locations. Thus the book slowly evolved from the seed of an idea into a passionate pursuit.”

Although ‘A Survivor’s Guide to Eternity’ is his first novel, it’s not his first venture into writing. Pete’s first book, ‘Indian Rhythms for the Drum Set’ was Book of the Year 2008 in the Dutch music press and made the Top 5 best drum publications 2009 in America.

A Survivor’s Guide to Eternity’ is published by Mirador Publishing and is available in all good bookshops and online retailers both as a paperback and as an eBook in all major formats.
