Rock Your Baby – George McCrae

There is no music like the 70's music, its timeless, you just love it. Compared to today's musical geniuses, there’s nothing like what happened 40 years ago. George McCrae’s Rock Your Baby has always been one of my faves of all time. Classic all the way. It defines the genius that was the 60s and 70s making it one of the best and first proper disco song.

The lyrics “Woman, take me in your arms, Rock your baby, Woman, take me in your arms, Rock your baby, There's nothing to it, Just say you wanna do it, Open up your heart, And let the loving start, Oh, woman, take me in your arms, Rock your baby, Woman, take me in your arms, Rock your baby………”

Listening to this LP takes you back in time when all we had was disco music to listen to, besides of course other genres of music that were made for listening pleasure. The first few bars of this track Rock Your Baby which is on Side A, puts youin a trance and makes you want to dance this beautiful song. I was barely 7 or 8 years old when this album was released and I remember my dad playing this on our Philips record changer a few years later. The song remained on No. 1 song in 9 countries on its release in 1974.

The album ‘Rock Your Baby’ was the first studio album by McCrae. It had 9 songs on both sides of the LP. The infectious rhythm and falsetto vocals of the opener Rock Your Baby made it a hit, a style that had never been attempted before. The other tracks include You got my Heart an up-tempo piece, followed by the long and steady You can Have it All.

Side B highlights include I need Somebody like you and another favorite piece I get Lifted. You also have a reprise, a very shortened piece of Rock Your Baby at the end.
