Forever and Ever – Demis Roussos

“Ever and ever forever you'll be the one / That shines in me like the morning sun. / Ever and ever forever and ever you'll be my spring, / My rainbow's end and the song I sing…..” lyrics from Demis Roussos song fills the room immediately.

The famous lyrics of Demis Roussos the Greek singer, who gave us not only such beautiful lyrics but a voice filled with warmth and love. This LP is one of my favorites of the man and when played, brings memories of the days when we were young when we used to hear this singer on the radio.

Each song has a beauty in it be it the opener ‘Forever and ever’, ‘My friend the wind’; to theSide B first track Lost in a Dream and Velvet Mornings it’s a cool breeze of beautiful music. His distinct voice is recognizable immediately for his deep and sensuous vocal range which was truly his trademark. He could take the high and low notes with ease, something no one could copy, which made him a true original. Even over forty years later no one has even attempted to sing his songs. He was a master in his own field and singer who made you cry, smile and fall in love. The instrumentation was kept simple but the use of traditional Middle Eastern instruments all added to the beauty of each song.

Roussos who passed away a few years ago brought us songs that live on forever, pop music that we will cherish, all in a balladic style with a melodic beat on a few which are pleasing to the ear making a connection with the listener immediately. The last track Goodbye my love goodbye is bittersweet track that says it all.

The album was Number one in four countries (Dutch, German and Norwegian) on its release and was Number Two in Austria. The song Forever and Ever was the only number one hit in the UK Singles Chart for Demis Roussos, spending a single week at the top of the charts in July 1976 and also the sole EP to reach the top of the charts that decade.

You know, when you hear songs like this one, it makes you wonder what happened with these songs of today, and you just feel like going back in time. Beautiful songs, unforgettable lyrics, beautiful melody..

His voice will live on forever and ever……
