“You have to be more than just a singer for the audience to connect with you” Raahul Jain

Amid the many singers/composers, who have debuted in the world of Indian music, one more name has joined the list. He is none other than Jatin Pandit’s son, Raahul Jatin, whose debuted with the single, Aankhon Ke Ishaare.

Composed and sung by Raahul Jatin, Aankhon Ke Ishaare gets you to tap your feet instantaneously while the sublime melody of Raahul’s voice rings in your ears even when the song is over. His composition is also bang on. Further, the song is mixed and mastered by Eric Pillai, while its lyrics are penned by Kumaar.

Featuring Raahul and Simone, the refreshing video has an intimate dance, which is choreographed by Shazia and Piyush. Rahul’s vivacious energy, music, vocals and dance is a visually enthralling treat for the viewers.

Raahul has been training in classical music under his father’s (Jatin Pandit) strict tutelage from a tender age of 5 and credits his sound foundation to him. Apart from training in music he has taken up formal training in Bollywood freestyle dance from Shiamak Davar and acting from Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles. He views himself as a performer. While music remains the spinal cord of his offerings he aspires to bring much more to the table.

Raahul’s smooth and soulful vocals allow him to blend into different genres of music - from light classical to western music, from Bollywood songs to Pop music. Raahul’s smooth & soulful vocals allow him to blend into different genres of music - from light classical to western music, from Bollywood songs to Pop music. He plays the piano and guitar, as well as produces the music for all his compositions. His training in dance, acting & fitness (Taekwondo and Gymnastics) makes him adept as a wholesome performer. Raahul’s stage presence in live shows is worth a watch.

Raahul Jatin spoke to Verus Ferreira about his debut song and his passion for music.

Let’s talk about your journey with music?

When I was 5 I stared learning music when I grew up and I realised that music comes to me very naturally. When I would sit and listen to some song I felt yes even i can make something like this. I guess it happens to you if your dad is a music composer, you constantly witness the creation of music at home. I was never pushed towards music so I grew up and had some 15 - 20 songs ready and took them to Anurag Bedi sir Head of Zee music, he liked this one and said lets do this and ‘Aankho ke Ishaare’ happened.

Tell us something about the song?

The melody took about 4 days to compose and after that I roped in few of my American friends who are music producers and we punched in the groove. The video was a true learning experience, we shot it whole in one day. Tiring but genuinely exciting. I have done back flips, and cart wheel in the song. Digital music is just not listening to a song, its seeing as well. You have to be more than just a singer for the audience to connect with you. The song is also very different from the trending

Other than singing have you taken formal training in instruments?

Yes I used to learn piano and Guitar I learnt myself by thinking whatever I could play on Piano I would play on Guitar. I used go on youtube and learn how to play cords on Guitar and its easy too, and Harmonium I know its similar to Piano and also I known little bit Tabla.

What has been the toughest part of your training ?

I think whenever you do anything professionally it always require hardwork whether its diction or singing with right emotions making sure that you are in tune, you have to make sure that you practice enough. So I don't think there is one particular thing I can point out as toughest. There have been challenges at every stage but that is what makes it so exciting also.

Singing or composing- What comes to you more naturally ?

I would say singing comes more naturally to me now but still I think I have to work and come a long way to answer what comes naturally to me but singing and composing both needs lot of hardwork and attention. If someone throws one song and says now sing I may not sing well for that i need to learn, practice and make it perfect only then i will be able to justify it.

Other than your father, who else have played significant roles in your musical journey?

In my musical journey, yes my father has played a strong role but my mom in general has been so supportive. I think she makes sure that I am always in a position where i can follow whatever I want may be not directly in music but I would say my mom is my support.
