Verus Ferreira chats with Mantra to know more about his work.

Can you tell us your journey in the entertainment industry?

It's been a roller coaster ride. 25 years of TV,Radio, Theatre and Cinema. From hosting local cable network shows, to anchoring some of the most popular TV shows on Indian Television. From being a celebrated Radio Jockey to now running a successful Podcast business. From acting in magnum opus cinema to playing characters in web series. From performing plays at Prithvi theatre Mumbai to Globe theatre in London, it's all been a thrilling ride.

Let’s go into the details of how and when you founded MnM Talkies.

I love the audio medium. Being a part of radio industry, I always wanted to create unique and interesting audio content. Around 2016 I started making audio plays for my YouTube channel. Soon with the onset of podcasts in India, we found the market and listeners for audio fiction. I then created a parallel vertical to my production house MantraMugdh productions and called it MnM Talkies.

Did you always know that you would one day be an RJ?

I was 18 when I became the first private FM Radio Jockey of India. There was no "Radio" back then except the government radio frequencies. I grew up listening to AIR and always found the medium intriguing. I used to love listening to cricket commentary. Thus when the opportunity came at my door, I knew what I was getting into.

What was the idea behind starting Podcast productions?

Every medium goes through a natural progression. With Digital content making way, it was apparent that Radio would have to make way for Podcasts. There was always a demand for non music Content and with podcasts that space was filled.

Do you think the medium of Podcasts is the next thing to happen and that India is ready for the surge it might create?

This is just the beginning and just like every industry, the medium will go through it's cycle. The initial boom, the rise and then it will totally depend on the demand whether it sustains or not.

How's it to direct audio shows?

It's very different from directing cinema or theater. One needs to not only have a strong sense of imagination but also foresight of how a piece will sound with different elements layered along with the actors performance.

As an actor what are your upcoming projects in web series?

I have a very interesting project lined up which I have shot for Rahi Anil Barve Raj and Dkay. Expecting it to be out on OTT soon.

What are the upcoming podcasts from the house of MnM Talkies that Listeners can look out for?

MnM Talkies has launched its own line of Original programming. With audio fiction to documentaries to poetry, science, mythology and many other genres. Our listener base has a varied taste and we are relishing making such podcasts.

You excel in multiple fields. Which according to you, do you think fits you the best?

I enjoy being in front of the microphone. May it be podcasts, radio, dubbing, singing.

On the other hand, there are so many things that you do, so what is it that you don’t do?

I can't paint. I wish I could, but honestly I haven't tried. I would love to someday.

What would be Mantra’s one mantra for your fans?

One life. Live it to the fullest

You have been a storyteller all your life, bringing audio to life to those who need it, how has your journey been?

Journey has been fantastic. I am glad I have had the skills to dabble into multiple forms of performing arts and I am glad I have had the chance to grow with them.

What would be your advice to aspiring youngsters who would like to Podcast in the future?

Everyone has a story to tell. If you decide to tell yours, make sure you express yourself fully

What are your plans for 2023?

We are lined up with multiple audio dramas including adaptations of some amazing international series. I am looking forward to the release of the web series I have acted in. Traveling to different parts of the world with theatre. And most importantly…bask in the biggest show called..Life.
