All things Jazz

Anytime a discussion of jazz saxophone takes place, a handful of names invariably crop up. A few that really fit the bill enough to put you in the mood to swing, is a band that’s playing at the NCPA on the weekend, Rynosax and The Soul City. Ryan Sadri, who heads the band, needs no introduction. A regular at Cafe Zoe, Sadri and his band will be playing a mix of originals especially for this show, as well as some of their favorite music flipping from the genres of Jazz, Soul, Neo-Soul, Soul & RnB.
Sadri and his band mates have a love-hate relationship with Mumbai, a city that never sleeps. Beneath all the grime, corruption and melée, they have found a resilient sense of soul, one that renews, inspires and transforms. These conflicting gravitational forces have brought this group of musicians together to create some fresh new sounds, which they will bring on stage.

Sadri is a great improviser on the tenor sax and his inventive improvisations is to be heard. Besides Sadri, expect top of the line musicians in attendance. You have amazing drum grooves from Andrew Kanga, with soulful bass lines from 19 year old Nathan Thomas, and lush keyboard parts with different sounds and textures from Ron Cha who has specially written some new material for this concert.
We also have the Shirish Malhotra, one of Mumbai’s most versatile multi instrumentalists who would be joining the ensemble on flute and alto sax. Girl power comes in the form of two beautiful musicians’ trumpeter Meera Fernandes and singer – songwriter Sarosh Nanavaty.

Says Sadri “I want people to come and listen to the pulse of Mumbai as this band gives the city a soundtrack. We hope to make people feel good and fresh with our new music”.

In this crazy disposable age that we find ourselves living in, it’s refreshing to find there are still some youngsters who take a couple of genres that are not really easy to play seriously.

So go ahead and don’t even think twice about grabbing a ticket and get set for one helluva ride into jazz - Rynosax style.
