Ricky Kej and Bickram Ghosh to create musical magnum popus for Republic Day parade

With over 17 albums, the music never stops for Grammy Award-winning musician Ricky Kej, for his latest album has five-time Grammy award winning artist and living legend, Stewart Copeland on a collaboration titled ‘Divine Tides’.

Kej’s earlier album ‘Shanti Samsara’ was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande in the presence of world leaders at the United Nations Climate Change conference in Paris in 2015.

Alongwith Bickram Ghosh, Kej has now done a 12 minute piece Vande Bharatam in celebration of 75 years of Independence. Over 500 dancers will be performing live to the song on Republic Day at the Republic Day parade.

The piece is a very rich piece of music and is based on Indian traditions but also has modern features and fusion. The duo were approached by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of culture to collaborate on this project. They have worked with some brilliant musicians from across India for over two weeks. The music is about the traditional and the modern. It’s sort of a fusion and has elements of folk, classical music, contemporary music. It’s extremely energetic and has a very strong emotional quality to it.

The two have worked remotely on the project because of the pandemic – while Ricky was in Bengaluru, Bickram was in Kolkata.

Kej is a genius on the keyboard and his music is a living testimony of his personality, while working as a soloist on over a thousand commercials, or on collaboration, Kej has swayed millions of music lovers with his music.

It is on cross - genre collaboration where Bangalore based Kej’s biggest fortes lies as a musician who is on a global mission to bring more meaning to music. And it was a collaboration in music that got him the highest honor in music, when he collaborated with South African flautist Wouter Kellerman on the album ‘Winds of Samsara’, which bagged them a Grammy in the Best New Age Album category in 2015, at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. The album is based on the ideals of peace by Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. To someone who was forced to study Dentistry, it was a proud moment for the Indian music industry.

Kej has also composed music for two time National Award winning film ‘Wild Karnataka’ in 2019. Kej’s dint of hard work and commitment has bestowed him awards all over the world.

Besides being a Billboard #1 artist, GQ Hero 2020, a highly respected music composer and an environmentalist, Kej has performed at prestigious venues in over 30 countries including the United Nations Headquarters in New York and Geneva and has been named ‘United Nations Global Humanitarian Artist’ and ‘Youth Icon of India’. He has been awarded more than a 100 music awards in over 20 countries. He is also the UNESCO MGIEP ‘Global Ambassador for Kindness’, UNCCD ‘Land Ambassador’, UNICEF ‘Celebrity Supporter’ and Ambassador for ‘Earth Day Network’.
