20th January, 2026Western classical music offers a space for inward reflection, where sound becomes a medium for emotion, memory, and meaning beyond words. Shaped by centuries of evolving ideas, it balances structure with imagination, restraint with intensity, and silence with resonance. At its most evocative, it invites attentive listening, allowing melody and harmony to unfold gradually, creating moments of stillness, wonder, and emotional clarity.
Within this tradition, the piano occupies a singular place as both an intimate and expansive instrument, capable of conveying profound introspection as well as dramatic sweep. Its repertoire draws from spirituality, mythology, and the romantic imagination, tracing a lineage that spans sacred chants, poetic miniatures, and virtuosic narratives. Across eras and styles, piano music has continued to serve as a conduit between the inner and outer worlds, offering listeners an experience that feels at once timeless and deeply personal.
Katya Concert for Kids, Furtados, Steinway & Sons, Royal Opera House, Mumbai, and Avid Learning present An Enchanting Evening with the Romantic Piano by Katya Grineva. Internationally acclaimed pianist Katya Grineva, whose playing has been described by The New York Times as “liquid and dreamlike” brings her luminous artistry to Mumbai for a rare and intimate recital, following her remarkable 23rd consecutive season performing at Carnegie Hall.
A celebrated Steinway Artist and recipient of the Gusi Peace Prize, Katya Grineva is renowned for her deeply poetic approach to the piano and her affinity for repertoire drawn from spirituality, mysticism, and romantic expression. Her performances are marked by subtlety of tone, emotional restraint, and an almost meditative sense of flow, creating a powerful connection between artist, music, and audience.
This special evening explores the mystical dimensions of Western classical music, drawing from legend, faith, and the eternal human search for transcendence. The programme spans centuries, from the sacred chants of 11th-century composer and mystic Saint Hildegard von Bingen to beloved masterpieces by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, and Beethoven. Each work has been chosen for its ability to evoke wonder, contemplation, and quiet transformation, allowing listeners to move fluidly between reflection and rapture.
This recital is the second in a series of three international performances presented by Avid Learning at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai. It is a distinguished line-up of global classical artists, moving from lyrical intimacy to virtuosic brilliance and choral grandeur, an unmissable month for lovers of Western classical music.
This performance was preceded by ‘From Dawn to Dream: A Western Classical Vocal Recital’, featuring Indian baritone Frazan Adil Kotwal, living in Germany. The month of January will end with a vocal ensemble performance by the Russian M. Turetsky Choir.
