How Eddie The Mascot became the public face of the band Iron Maidan, Malcolm Venville explains in ‘Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition’

Universal Pictures India (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) will bring ‘Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition’ to audiences, a compelling documentary directed by Malcolm Venville that explores thejourney of one of the most iconic bands in music history to the screen, offering an in-depth look into their enduring legacy.

With unprecedented access to official archives and intimate recollections from both past and present band members, the documentary captures Iron Maiden’s rise from the pubs of East London to the world’s biggest stadiums. Spanning five decades, the film blends exclusive interviews and immersive storytelling to celebrate the band’s uncompromising vision and deep connection with their global fanbase.

Expanding on this unique storytelling approach, Director Malcolm Venville highlights how Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot, Eddie, evolved into the band’s defining public face in Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition. Originally created to complement the band’s reserved on-stage presence, Eddie quickly became a powerful symbol of their identity, appearing across album covers and visual narratives over the years. Venville states, “Eddie became the band’s public face and mythic alter ego, with his evolution across artwork originally created by Derek Riggs mirroring the history of the band itself”. Through specially crafted animated sequences inspired by this artwork, the film uses Eddie as a visual thread to trace Iron Maiden’s journey, reflecting their evolution while offering fans a deeper, more imaginative insight into the band’s legacy.

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition is about endurance: a band that refused to follow the changing fashions of music and a global audience that found identity, friendship and meaning in their music. It is the story of a shared culture, built over fifty years, between a group of musicians from East London and millions of listeners around the world.

Get ready to witness the legacy of Iron Maiden like never before, releasing in cinemas on 15th May, 2026.
