07th July, 2026Acclaimed tenor Angel Romero returns to the NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts) following his success at Operalia 2024—the prestigious international opera competition hosted at the NCPA—where he was awarded the Second Prize and the Zarzuela Prize.
Joined by the SOI (Symphony Orchestra of India) Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Marco Alibrando, Romero presents an evening of string orchestra works and Italian vocal repertoire. Supported by the IstitutoItaliano di Cultura Mumbai, the programme spans orchestral works by Holst and Mendelssohn alongside songs and arias by Gastaldon, Brogi, Di Lazzaro, Denza, Verdi and Rossini.
The evening places Italian vocal repertoire at the centre of the programme, with Romero performing works by Gastaldon, Brogi, Di Lazzaro, Denza, Verdi and Rossini. Through pieces such as Musicaproibita, Visioneveneziana, Chitarraromana, Occhi di fata, Addio, sogni di gloria, Insolitaria stanza, Il poveretto and Rossini’s Ladanza “Tarantella” from Les soirées musicales, the concert evokes the warmth, lyricism and character of Italian song. The orchestral selections include Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite, Op. 29 No. 2, Schmidt’s Interlude from Notre Dame and Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 7 in D minor.
Principal Conductor of the DeutschesNationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar and Music Director of VoceAllOpera in Milan, Marco Alibrando has appeared at leading festivals including Rossini in Wildbad, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and the Festival di Spoleto. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Romero completed his studies at Yale University and Houston Baptist University, where he performed roles including Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Fisherman in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol and Triquet in Eugene Onegin. His recent concert highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 under the baton of Marin Alsop and Bernstein’s Candide with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony. In 2021, he was a semi-finalist at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition and a winner of the Eleanor McCollum Competition.
