GrooveBot's Nu Metal single ‘Toxic’ featuring Pratika

GrooveBot, a nu / industrial metal project, is the brainchild of Chinmay Agharkar, guitar player of progressive rock band Paradigm Shift and grunge outfit Hook from Mumbai, India.

The first single by GrooveBot titled Toxic features Mumbai based multi-talented singer and songwriter Pratika on vocals. The song takes a fresh approach to energetic nu metal from the early 2000s, mashed up with modern synth sounds often heard in industrial music. The song is now out on major streaming platforms worldwide, along with a lyic videoreleased through GrooveBot’s YouTube channel.

Having implemented heavy riffs, crunchy synth, a good combination of singing and a few growls here and there, the song is a headbanging combination of fist-pumping choruses that meet meaty breakdowns and implements some dark vocal harmonies. The artwork for Toxic is by Dark Matter aka Ronen Samson, who bagged the Radio City Freedom Award with his debut artwork for Paradigm Shift’s album ‘Sammukh’. He has also created a lyric video for the song.

The artists (Chinmay and Pratika) are not new to the metal sound. Both of them individually have been in and around the metal and indie music scene in Mumbai from the late 2000s.

Chinmay was the guitar player of rock band Funk the System. Pratika was initially the bass player, then vocalist of metal band Chronic Phobiafrom the tender age of 13. Chinmay’s current band Paradigm Shifthas so far released two heavy studio albums ‘Coalescence’ and ‘Sammukh’. He is working on an EP under the name GrooveBot, expected to be out sometime later this year.

As for Pratika, she has released and featured on four songs since April 2020 - her debut hip-hop/rap single Burn (produced by Calm, Seedhe Maut), rock single Neon Dream from Def Giant’s debut EP In Another World, electronic pop/dance single To The High , produced by Mumbai-based singer Piyush Kapoor (vocalist of Daira) and The Ballad of Trilodkars from hip hop artist Tienas’ second album ‘Season Pass’.
