The Tapi Project bring their unique sound of Folk Fusion to the Royal Opera House, Mumbai

Storytelling forms an important crux of music. From deeply personal expressions to narratives representing wider issues at hand, music has been its essential vessel. The art form has the ability to shift between the realms of private experiences to the universal, blurring our existence as solely isolated beings but part of a larger global network. For the Tapi Project, the individual journeys of the band members merge to create sounds that resonate with diverse audiences in an accessible manner, valuing self-expression and collective expression.

Avid Learning and Royal Opera House, Mumbai present The Tapi Project : A Blend of Folk and Contemporary Sounds from India & Beyond. The band consisting of Yogendra Saniyawala (Acoustic Guitar / Greek Bouzouki / Voice), Swati Minaxi (Voice), Gaurav Kapadia (Drums / Voice), and Biju Nambiar (Keyboard / Bass / Voice) journey through the reinterpretation and narration of tales shaping contemporary India and their inner reflections.

Keeping fluidity and authenticity at its core, its multi-genre influences of jazz, rock, funk and folk showcase their firm belief in dissolving boundaries. The light textures of undulating guitars, whispers turn into roaring declamations, and driving rhythms display artistic versatility, creating a dynamic auditory exploration.

Internationally, the band has performed at a variety of venues and festivals such as Trunchonbury Festival (UK), JazzNaCalo (Bulgaria), Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), Everness Festival (Hungary), Awaji Festival (Japan), Festival Ulicnih Sviraca (Montenegro) and Festival Karusel (Serbia), with their most recent performance at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Scotland. As part of their India tour in 2022, Mahindra Kabira Festival, SOWS Festival, World Sacred Music Festival, Gujarat Literature Festival, MTV Sessions, Windmills Craftworks, Abhivyakti Festival and the prestigious Mahindra Independence Rock Festival.

They have also been featured on prominent print and radio platforms such as The Songlines Magazine (UK), BBC Radio, Serbian National Newspaper and Hong Kong National Radio, Rolling Stone India, The Statesman, and Streaming Museum NY.
