Mumbai-based alt-rock project Runt returns with Like Jello, Only Stickier, the third single off their long-awaited debut full-length album, due later this year.
Led by seasoned vocalist and songwriter Siddharth Basrur, Runt continues to push musical boundaries with this raw, cathartic track that blends pop-friendly melodies with a gritty, heavier sonic palette.
Written in a period of deep frustration, Like Jello, Only Stickier is an unfiltered reflection of inertia, ego, and ultimately, personal growth. “It’s about that point where you feel stuck, angry, unsure of what to do but eventually realize the power of asking for help,” says Basrur. Sonically, the track juxtaposes ska-inspired grooves with aggressive riffs and impassioned vocals, embodying the emotional tug-of-war at its core.
The track is produced, engineered, and written by Basrur, with mixing and mastering by Chandan Raina (also on guitars/vocals). The lineup is completed by Soumitra Vichare (bass/vocals) and Jeremy D’souza (drums/vocals). Known for genre fluidity and dynamic live energy, Runt first made waves with the 2017 EP ‘Rhymes With’, which landed on Rolling Stone India’s Top Indie EPs. Their 2020 single Last Breath followed suit, making it to the outlet’s Best Singles list.
While the lyrics of Like Jello, Only Stickier were written over five years ago in a now-retired studio room, the track feels as immediate as ever. “It started as a form of catharsis. I was listening to music from artists like J Robbins, Helmet, Bad Religion. That energy bled into the writing,” says Basrur.
The single is a testament to Runt’s growth and evolution from solo studio project to full-fledged band. With each release, the group reaffirms their place in India’s independent rock landscape unafraid to be vulnerable, loud, and real.
