08th August, 2025Bangalore-based rapper and producer Brodha V has dropped his new single titled OM amid much anticipation. A few weeks ago, the rapper hinted at the release through an Instagram reel while reflecting on his time in the industry and how he’s doing it all on his own — refusing to become a template.
The “Real Face of Indian Rap” reclaims his title with OM, a track that is hauntingly personal, introspective, and retrospective. The musical equivalent of a diary entry, the song is quite possibly V’s most intimate track to date. From talking about lost loves to feeling the crippling fear of failure and hunger, the rapper divulges in a self-induced state of self-reflection best expressed through his signature sharp lyrics, deep vocals, and a meditative musical sound.
The release of his last two songs and a Reddit AMA prompted much fan demand for another devotional rap track, a style that has, over time, become Brodha V’s signature. As ‘Aathma Raama’ and ‘Aigiri Nandini’ continue to trend every few months, OM arrives as a more sombre, grounded, and formidable successor. OM doesn’t try to prove a point or fight for a place on viral charts, it simply lives and breathes in a universe that both rattles and soothes the many anxieties that come with being a rapper and a public figure.
Brodha V has left all his armour behind and opened up his wounds and worries for the world to see and feel. He moves with a quiet dignity that comes only with experience, and the knowledge that there’s no one else like him. He does nobody any favours by sugar-coating anything. Bitingly truthful and almost naked, OM is not just reflective, it’s also a commentary on how even someone as ‘together’ as Brodha V battles his demons and fights through adversity to keep doing what he does.
But make no mistake, OM is not an admission of defeat. It is hopeful, poignant, and powerful. The black-and-white visuals and minimal aesthetic reflect his innermost thoughts. He dances around his demons and looks them in the eye, telling them he’s not here for a seat at the table, he’s here to stay. He doesn’t shrink, he doesn’t flinch, and he certainly doesn’t give up. All of five minutes long, Brodha V raps into space, ruminating on his life choices, acknowledging his pain, and declaring to the world that he is not done yet.
A music video reminiscent of an arthouse film, it does little to coddle or excite and instead emphasises the discomfort that comes with sitting with your thoughts. Bold visuals that are raw and vulnerable also make space for V’s many layers. He does nothing to hide his complexity, and it works.
The rapper has been soul-searching and traveling over the past few months, reflecting and learning. “I really wanted to be able to just express myself. Everyone’s out here to prove a point and chase virality like that’s the only way to measure talent or success. But when you’ve been around as long as I have, it really takes some reflection to realise that trends come and go, only the truth sustains. Am I here to be a viral trend and be forgotten 15 minutes later? Or am I here to speak my truth? Truth that will resonate with people, that will give them space to feel and heal, I mean, isn’t that the point of music? I’ve been on a journey of self-discovery and with each moment, I discover more and more that I’ve always known who I was and what I wanted to say. I’ve never felt more liberated. OM opened up something in me, and it’s a by-product of self-imposed isolation, sleepless nights and every rejection or feeling of abandonment I felt; and maybe even some creative fatigue. I’m really hoping this song will do for my listeners what it did for me, because the Gayatri Mantra is deeply sacred to me and has always soothed and centred me. There was no way it was always meant to be a part of the track”, said Brodha V.
The visuals let the song breathe, they don’t suffocate or distract, instead blending seamlessly with every word and verse, becoming a part of Brodha V himself. He wears his verses like skin, and lets the visuals unmask him bit by bit as the Gayatri Mantra echoes through. The video does the song justice by stripping away any distractions. It’s meant to make the viewer feel, think, and, most of all, walk away knowing that sometimes you will fall. But you get right back up, dust yourself off, and keep going. Shot by Sujish Das, the video is all things hopeful.
The rapper has been real and honest on his social media platforms, actively engaging with fans and sparking a ripple effect of love, support, and community, which is ultimately what music and hip hop are all about. The release came slightly out of left field, as he stepped away from the usual promo song-and-dance, choosing instead to share content that was authentic and vulnerable. The result? A release that felt all the more personal, leaving fans and listeners pleasantly surprised, yet deeply moved and excited.
OM is available to stream on all major platforms.
