27th August, 2025In a musical landscape dominated by fleeting trends, Jordan Dias offers something much more lasting - authenticity. A drummer by foundation, a songwriter by instinct, and a multi-instrumentalist by sheer passion, Jordan is a young artist whose music echoes the heart of rock’s golden era while carving out a sound that’s entirely his own.
While he claims he likes singing the best, the drums is his favorite instrument. “The guitar and the other instruments are a songwriting tool for me. I don't usually perform outside of drums, vocals and guitar” says Jordan in an email interview.
Jordan’s family moved from Bandra in Mumbai to Mississauga, Canada, when he was just four. His early musical education was shaped at Merriam Music School, where he studied under respected musicians like Mark Joseph, Craig Rattos, and Mike Siracusa. These mentors helped hone his craft not just technically, but artistically, guiding him to trust his instincts while mastering the fundamentals. That balance between freedom and form defines much of Jordan’s sound today. At Merriam Music School, Jordan now teaches drums to the next generation of drummers.
Jordan first hit the stage as the drummer of various bands throughout Highschool and University and performed widely at local venues and community events. Even then, it was clear that Jordan wasn’t content to just play along, he was destined to lead. Jordan went on to form his own band, the “Jordan Dias Band”, and entertained patrons at various local pubs and bars.
His song Something New, written in just a few days as a surprise wedding gift for his cousin, is as personal as it is impressive. Jordan wrote the lyrics, sang, played drums, guitar, and keyboards, and arranged the entire song himself. It’s a touching, melodic piece that reveals both his emotional depth and musical self-sufficiency.“The song "Something New" and its lyrics were written in around 48 hours as a wedding gift for my cousin Denise and her husband Rhett. I tried my best to reflect their relationship through the words of the song. So you had lyrics like "A coffee date at the Tea room" in reference to their first date, while "A salty breeze" refers to their moonlit strolls in Goa. The phrase "You'll Never Walk Alone" is the theme song of the famous English football club Liverpool FC, and was included in the song, as the couple are huge Liverpool fans” says the singer who is in his final year of music program with York University.
Greatly influenced by the free-spirited, improvisational style of The Grateful Dead, Jordan carries forward that legacy of musical exploration and emotional storytelling. You can hear it in the groove of his rhythms, the honesty of his lyrics, and the organic feel of his arrangements. For Jordan, music isn’t just structured sound, it’s a conversation, a connection, a journey. As he states “My earliest musical influences include Rush, Metallica, Linkin Park and Green Day. Later on, I got more into Snarky Puppy, Thundercat, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I have also kept an ear out for anything that catches my attention musically in all genres of music”.
Jordan is more than just a promising talent, he’s a genuine artist shaped by the legends, guided by strong mentors, and driven by pure passion. With his roots in classic rock and his ears tuned to the future, Jordan’s journey is one well worth following. As his heroes once proved, the road goes on forever, and Jordan’s just getting started.“I'm currently working on some new material, which could potentially be released sometime in 2026. I see myself continuing with my music in the form of teaching and performing. I hope to continue releasing all the current songs with some new ones on the way too.” he signs off.
