24th September, 2025In a world torn apart by narratives of hate, prejudice, division, and the loss of empathy, Sonam Kalra’s latest song, Chaleya Momin – The Search, rises as a powerful reminder of what is essential for our survival — peace and humanity.
The song tells the story of a seeker searching for humanity in a world divided by discord and discrimination. It is not just music but a call to conscience, affirming that the Divine resides in every being, and that kindness and compassion remain the only true religion.
Written in Punjabi by Sonam Kalra and co-produced by Saptak Chatterjee and Sonam Kalra, the track balances richness with restraint, letting Sonam’s evocative vocals carry its meditative, stirring message.
The video is another masterpiece which serves as a Cross-Border Collaboration Rooted in Sisterhood - with Iranian Visual Artist Feazeh Sepehrsadeghian. The video expands the song’s vision beyond borders. Sonam joined hands with Iranian visual artist Faezeh Sepehrsadeghian and Indian graphic artist Gopika Chowla to create an evocative animated piece across time zones and geographies.
“Coming together with Iranian female visual artist Faezeh and Indian female visual artist Gopika Chowfla was extremely special for me. It wasn’t just a cross border collaboration”, states Kalra adding, “Written by me and co produced with Saptak Chatterjee, we created this across 4 countries and 3 continents, lots of brainstorming, messages, zoom calls, late – night mixes and remixes, until it became a song that asks only one thing; can we create a world without labels and divisions? Can we be kinder to one another?”
“This wasn’t just a creative partnership, it was an act of sisterhood,” says Kalra. “Women are the carriers of peace and the fiercest truth-tellers. At a time when Iranian women are risking everything to be seen and heard, this collaboration is a deliberate, unshakable call for peace.”
Women have always held a unique power to nurture, heal, and create expansiveness from pain, says Kalra. “Even male Sufi poets like Amit Khusrau and Baba Bulleh Shah often assumed the female form, believing that only a woman’s heart could embody such vastness of love. Chaleya Momin carries forward that legacy, reminding us that women’s voices can become bridges of compassion in a divided world”.
More than a song, Chaleya Momin – The Search is a spiritual offering, a reminder that despite our divisions, we are bound by one shared truth: we are all children of one humanity, one world. As Kalra rightly said, it is a song that asks only one thing: can we create a world without labels and divisions? Can we be kinder to one another?
