12th November, 2025Arguably their heaviest-hitter yet, The Veiler, retains the acclaimed Indian Psych/Sludge Metal band’s signature sonic prowess while displaying an intense evolutionary departure from their previous sound.
After the tremendous reception of their acclaimed 2021 concept album 'Of Lotus The Lotus & The Thunderbolt', Midhaven is back with another roaring number. Sonic departure aside, the Mumbai-based outfit stays true to its affinity for Indian mythology and philosophy juxtaposed with intense metal tunes.
A layered offering, The Veiler tackles arrogance personified as Asura (anti-gods). Written on Raag Todi (Dhrupad tradition of Indian Classical Music) this thunderous new single with its distinctive oratory vocals was “composed from a stray few lines of prose written in 2019. There’s more than meets the eye with this song, layers that can be picked at, meanings that may just be more than what they seem,” informs Karan Kaul, who handles the vocal and guitar duties for Midhaven.
Lead Guitar player/Vocalist Aditya Mohanan elaborates, “This song addresses the theme of hubris and conceit, that are often embedded within the layers of human identity, which has resulted in the heaviest song we’ve written till date,” says the archaeologist/historian whose the fascination with ancient philosophy and metaphysics led to some interesting explorations in the band’s body of work.
The guitar solo, which was recorded ‘all improv’ at Island City Studios in Mumbai, is another element that is sure to stand out as a highlight for the listeners.
While the new track is definitely a few shades away from the sound that characterised Midhaven’s previous album, their signature musicianship, writing, production, prowess and ability to grip the listener remains unchanged.
The band has teamed up again with its previous collaborators — renowned Australian producer Forrester Savell, who has worked with several global musicians of repute (Animals As Leaders, Make Them Suffer, & Karnivool, among others), mixed and mastered the track, and Gaurav Basu (Acid Toad) as Artwork Designer.
Founded back in 2011-12, Midhaven released their debut EP, 'Tales From the Tide', in 2013. Soon after they dropped their first EP, Midhaven became one of the first few indie/Metal bands of the country to be signed by a major multinational music label such as Universal Music Group (UMG). Their first album 'Spellbound' was released by UMG in 2014.
Blending traditional Indian strains with progressive Metal, the Mumbai-based trio Midhaven released their well-praised 2nd album titled ‘Of the Lotus and the Thunderbolt’ in 2021. Midhaven thinks of this seven-track concept album as their humble attempt to present a new shade of ‘Indian' Metal music.
