The New Year brings Osi Gomango with an all new flavor in the song ‘Missing You’

Osi’s music is a humble tribute to the music he grew up listening to, namely, songs from the 80’s and 90’s. Rich in arrangements, playful lyrics, smart transitions, trademarks of the era that defined a generation.

Osi first started dabbling into the world of music, while in plus 2, considered as part of college in Calcutta, in 1990-91. Having formed his first band, Prism, he got the whiff of what it was to be liberated onstage and went on to winning a bunch of inter college fests, which put him in the spotlight on the music scene and he co founded the classic pop rock outfit, called Krosswindz. The band went on to release a successful EP on BMG Crescendo.

Osi later joined a pop band, calling themselves Barefoot, and it was there that he got exposed to alternative genres like soul, R&B and funk. Those days defined his personal taste and there was no looking back. He later was a member of the classic rock band Shiva for a brief period and did a bunch of gigs across the northeast, including an Australian tour, all the while, focusing and working on his song writing skills. Later he was one of the original members of Plan B, covering a bunch of highly ambitious covers and sitting in on originals.

In 2014, Osi relocated to Bangalore and formed The Riverman band along with Luke, a longtime buddy. On this project, he focused entirely on writing and performing originals, which, according to him, helped pitch for gigs at a bunch of venues in town.

At the moment, Osi is at the forefront of his own band, Juxtaposed, formed in 2024. They are an 8 piece independent act based out of Bangalore have already released their debut EP, ‘Bounce’ last year. They’ve played at a bunch of venues including the prestigious NCPA in Mumbai in September 2025.

Last year was a big year for them when they won the first runners up at the Battle of Bands (the biggest in the country) at the ticket to Hornbill in Nagaland. They also headlined the Hornbill Festival on 8th December, 2025, at Kisama, Kohima, Nagaland. The band is focused on the bustling music festival scene taking over in the country and have plans on releasing a full fledged album in early 2026 to help them earn a spot on the festival circuit. The kind of genre they do is influenced by funk, R&B, soul and groove.

Osi started writing a bunch of songs during the pandemic and one led to another, and before he knew it, he had an albums worth of tracks. So he decided on doing his solo thing in 2023. All his songs are in collaboration with Sumith Ramachandran, a close buddy of his who also happens to be the co - arranger on most of the songs. Missing You is the third single release by Osi, Only You and Happy Song, being the first and second.

Speaking about the new song which was released on 2nd January 2026, Osi says that the song is about his first serious crush on a girl. “I was supposed to meet up with her at her hometown in Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) but, I missed the train and she was waiting at her hometown platform for me, but I was a NO SHOW. So, with this on hind sight, the narrative picks  up post this incident and questions the events stemming out as a result, and I’m being really apologetic, but have moved on, but overall, still hung over her, about which I speak  in the chorus sections”.

Osi’s influences include bands like Level 42, EWF, Average White band, Steely dan, Stevie wonder, Billy Joel, Rick Astley, Chaka Khan, LRB, Ian Moss, MJ, Prince, Tower of Power, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Fourplay, Tears for Fears, Simply Red, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Michael McDonald, to name a few.

With Missing You out now on social media platforms the ballad is making waves all over and hopefully might reach the stranded girl on the platform.
