Poems by Roselin Kurian, performed gracefully by classical dancers

There are moments in the arts when one form quietly reaches out to another, creating something larger than itself. Such a moment unfolded when twelve original poems by J. K. Roseline found expression through dance, presented by the young performers of Abhinayaa Institute of Research and Fine Arts.

The evening held at the mini PL Dshpande auditorium, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai, on Friday 30th May 2026, was not a mere adaptation of poetry into movement. It was a conversation between the written word and the language of dance. Each poem inspired a unique interpretation, allowing the dancers to explore its emotions, rhythms and silences in their own way.

Music, movement and verse came together to create a seamless artistic experience. The young performers brought freshness and spontaneity to the compositions, while the poetry provided the emotional thread that connected the performances.

What made the presentation memorable was its spirit of collaboration. It demonstrated that poetry need not remain confined to the page; it can be seen, heard and felt through other art forms. The production also highlighted the creative potential of young artistes when encouraged to engage with literature.

The programme stood as a celebration of artistic dialogue, where poetry and dance enriched one another, leaving the audience with the reminder that art.

Adding a historical dimension to the programme was a dance narration on the life of Rani Durgavati, the valiant sixteenth-century queen remembered for her courage and determination in defending her kingdom. Through expressive choreography, the young artistes traced moments from her life, presenting a glimpse of a ruler whose bravery continues to inspire generations. The narration was followed by a tribute to the legendary queen, celebrating her indomitable spirit and her enduring place in India's cultural memory. The performance served not only as a reminder of history but also as an expression of respect for a woman who became a symbol of resilience and sacrifice.

Color festival holi poem

The Colours of Devotion

Among the evening's poetic offerings was a devotional composition inspired by the eternal bond of Radha and Krishna and the joyous celebration of Holi. More than a festival of colours, the piece explored Holi as a celebration of divine love, where playfulness and devotion become one.

Drawing upon the timeless imagery of Braj, the poem evoked the vibrant hues of spring, the music of the flute and the carefree spirit of the festival, while reflecting the deeper truth that love transcends all barriers. Radha and Krishna emerge not merely as mythological figures but as enduring symbols of affection, harmony and spiritual union.

Through its lyrical simplicity, the composition invited the audience to look beyond the outward spectacle of colour and discover the inner joy and renewal that the festival represents. It was a gentle reminder that Holi is not only a celebration of nature's abundance but also of the human heart's capacity for love, forgiveness and togetherness.
