Sagarika Music celebrates 28 years of legacy with the launch of Coffee House Originals

For 28 years, Sagarika Music has never followed the noise. Instead, it has quietly built one of India's most respected independent music legacies by putting artists before algorithms, relationships before trends and timeless music before fleeting moments. Today, that legacy enters a new era with the launch of Coffee House Originals, a platform created to bring celebrated musicians and emerging talent together through honest collaboration and original music.

"For us, music has always been about artists first. Every artist we've worked with has become a part of our journey and those relationships have shaped who we are today. Coffee House Originals is our way of carrying that philosophy forward by creating a space where artists can collaborate freely, exchange ideas and make music without the pressure of fitting into a trend," says Sagarika Das, Managing Director of Sagarika Music.

Inspired by the warmth, creativity and conversations that unfold over coffee, Coffee House Originals is imagined as a creative meeting point where music comes together naturally, whether in a studio, on a stage or under the open sky. The inaugural season features a collection of ten original songs accompanied by ten music videos shot across India, blending music, culture, travel and dance into a single storytelling experience. Designed as a language fluid platform, the series will feature original music in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese, celebrating India's rich cultural diversity while bringing together established performers and promising new voices.

The first releases feature long time Sagarika Music collaborators Vaishali Samant and Swapnil Bandodkar, reflecting the enduring relationships that have always defined the label. The extremely prestegious line up of artists include Vijayprakash, Rahul Deshpande, Priyanka Barve, Bela Shende, and talented youngsters like Anaya Wadkar, Vikram Bam, Sanchari Bandhypadhyay, Rakesh Riyan and Parashmita Nath. Looking ahead, Coffee House Originals will continue to evolve beyond digital releases through live performances, artist showcases and community driven experiences that bring audiences closer to the music and the artists behind it.

"After 28 years, we are not reinventing ourselves. We are building on everything that has defined Sagarika Music from the very beginning. Coffee House Originals is our way of celebrating India's incredible musical diversity while creating opportunities for artists across generations and languages to come together. We hope audiences discover music here that feels honest, timeless and deeply rooted in creativity," adds Das.

Coffee House Originals is more than a new music platform. It is the next chapter of a three-generation musical legacy that continues to champion creativity, meaningful collaborations and music that lasts far beyond the moment.

The Sagarika brand was founded in the year 1984 by Hirak Das as one of the earliest Cassette and CD manufacturing plants in India, his daughter (after whom he named the company) then went on to create the label side of the business. Sagarika Music represents one of India's few legacy independent music labels, carrying forward a three generations of commitment to creating and nurturing music. At a time when Marathi music was largely centred around folk and devotional genres, the label introduced a fresh contemporary sound with pathbreaking songs such as Aika Dajiba, Radha Hi Bavari, Galavar Khali and Meri Madhubala, helping redefine the landscape of Marathi popular music. The label also played a pivotal role in launching and shaping the careers of artists including Vaishali Samant, Swapnil Bandodkar and Avadhoot Gupte, while releasing Ajay Atul's debut album ‘Sang Ho Tum’ and one of their first Marathi film soundtrack ‘Agga Bai Arrechya’.

Sagarika was also one of the first labels to establish themselves in Bengali music at a time when there was no second label creating non film Bengali film other than HMV. The company went on to create a rich and varied catalogue of over 5000 tracks in Bengali and launching over 25 artists in that period of time.

Its journey extended beyond regional music as Sagarika became one of the early pioneers of India's non film Hindi music movement during the remix era, delivering chartbusters such as Sajna Hai Mujhe, Dilbar Dil Se and Jawan Hai Mohabbat, before going on to create Indi pop favourites like Mera Dadla. Alongside these milestones, the label has recorded albums with legendary musicians including Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt. Ajay Chakrabarty, reinforcing its commitment to artistic excellence across genres.
