The Fall – Norah Jones – (Virgin Records) – Rs. 395/-

There are certain singers whom we feel that we know, from the very first time we hear them. Multiple Grammy award winning singer and songwriter Norah Jones is one of them. One listen and one would say that she has overtones of Sade worship or even Macy Gray.

Her fourth album which features a portrait by photographer Autumn de Wilde is on the same lines as her previous work. This time she has experimented with different sounds and a new set of collaborators including Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits) and frequent partner Jesse Harris and others. She has also a new lineup of musicians to accompany her on the album too.

The intimacy of her delivery, lush tones and jazz grooves sliding in and out of her songs, makes Jones in command, interpreting her thoughts on various issues that she feels strongly.

Her sedate 13 tracks, offers a musicality and depth of feeling that would be uncommon in any era. From the opening Chasing Pirates, right through her final song in Man of the hour, Jones knows how to create magic for her listeners.

With a face as fresh as the morning sunlight, sultry vocals blending elements of jazz, soul, country, and folk-pop, Norah cannot be dismissed as just another Britney Spears wannabe anymore. There’s seriousness and wisdom in those eyes that speak of an emotion waiting to reveal itself.

Lyrics included on a lovely poster of the diva.
