Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood – Live from Madison Square Garden – 2 Discs (Warner Music) Rs. 495/-

This recording was made at Madison Square Garden in late February 2008 when icons Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood performed a concert together alongwith bassist Willie Weeks, keyboardist Chris Stainton and drummer Ian Thomas. Fans are sure to experience the sound and the glory of a performance on that famous stage by two of rock's greatest artists.

The musicianship is excellent with Winwood playing guitar and Clapton trading the guitar for vocals and vice versa. Guitar players and fans of the duo have a feast in store for them on this never before two hour capsule that promises old favorites of both artists like Winwood’s I hate to cry, Glad, Split, Can’t find my way home and Dear Mr. Fantasy among many others.

Eric for his measure excels on pieces like Presence of the Lord, No face, No name, No, After Midnight, and lastly Cocaine backed with a little piano work. There are quite a lot of guitar solos, great riffs, but then that is the highlight of this amazing release. In the same way as a live performance normally is, there are some extended versions too, that shows the duos musical capabilities to perform such gigs and prolong their act.

Truly mesmerizing is also Double Trouble, Little Wing’ and the longest track Voodoo Chile. The crowd response to the songs is amazing, and with a good hi – fi system at home you can almost feel you are right there.

But on the downside fans may complain that they’re surely missing Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight and Winwood’s Higher Love. Overall, an amazing live recording and worth picking up for your collection.
