Following the release of You & I and MIA featuring Nigerian artist Muyeez, Goa-born artist Tsumyoki recently unveiled ‘Afro Yoki’ a five-track EP released via EMPIRE in partnership with Gully Gang Entertainment.

Built around his signature "Goan Bounce" sound, the project brings together contemporary Afrobeats, melodic songwriting and the multicultural influences that have shaped his upbringing, while marking his most cohesive body of work to date.

At the heart of the EP is Yah Yah a vibrant track that captures the rhythmic energy and melodic confidence at the core of ‘Afro Yoki’. Blending live percussion with Tsumyoki's songwriting and signature "Goan Bounce" sound, the track serves as the EP's defining musical statement.

Following the introduction of You & I and the cross-continental collaboration MIA , ‘Afro Yoki’ brings Tsumyoki's vision into full focus - one rooted in Goa's long-standing cultural connections with Africa and Portugal, yet unmistakably contemporary.

Unlike his previous releases, ‘Afro Yoki’ was shaped as much in the studio as it was by the influences behind it. While developing the project, Tsumyoki and his collaborators moved away from programmed percussion and began experimenting with live drums throughout the recordings - an approach that ultimately became one of the defining elements of the EP's sound.

"We were making these songs with digital sounds, then thought, 'What if we played real drums from start to finish?' The moment we heard it back, it completely changed the energy. We couldn't even sit still while listening to it. That's when we knew we had something special," says Tsumyoki.

The project is also informed by personal connections that stretch beyond music. Alongside growing up surrounded by African, Portuguese and Konkani influences in Goa, Tsumyoki's own family history extends to East Africa, where his great-grandmother was born and spoke Swahili. Those experiences sit alongside the enduring influence of Goan icons Lorna and Chris Perry, whose music remains woven into the fabric of ‘Afro Yoki’

The release arrives shortly after Tsumyoki completed his maiden UK tour, a milestone he had envisioned long before stepping onto an international stage.

"I always told myself I'd only come to the UK if it was for music. I never wanted to come on holiday - I wanted someone to book me. To have finally been here performing these songs and seeing people connect with them miles away from home has been an unbelievable feeling."

The tour, which followed an appearance on DJ AG's London livestream, saw audiences across the UK embrace songs from ‘Afro Yoki’, reinforcing the project's ability to resonate far beyond Goa while remaining deeply rooted in its identity.

Goa-born artist Tsumyoki is among the most exciting voices in Indian independent music, blending hip-hop, pop, R&B, dancehall and global influences into a sound rooted in his Goan identity. Signed to EMPIRE in partnership with Gully Gang Entertainment, he has amassed 150M+ streams across platforms with breakout records including Don't Even Text, Pink Blue and Ek Do Ek.
