Phil Collins - Finally….The First Farewell Tour (Two DVD set) ) (Import)

An eight hour DVD featuring Phil Collins' performance from Paris that formed part of the Final Farewell Tour. The 2-DVD set not only includes the live performances, but is also jam-packed with 22 promotional music video clips from the singles played during the concert.

In fact-music videos from of his Billboard #1Singles are here include Against All Odds, One More Night, Separate Lives, Sussudio, A Groovy Kind of Love, Another Day in Paris, and Two Hearts. And if that isn't enough, the DVD also features backstage and documentary footage plus a photo gallery that adds all the more fun to watching an artist DVD.

Encased in a cardboard case, the two DVDs have Phil Collins and the band give a performance of their lives at a capacity and clearly knowledgeable crowd at the 20,000 seat "Palais Omnisport de Paris" in June 2004.  The drum solos and the heavy saxophone take off on the opening disc with Something Happened on the way to Heaven, followed by a galaxy of songs like Against all Odds, Don’t lose My Number, the mushy You’ll be in my Heart, One More Night and the list goes on. Mention must be made of the heart touching song and video of Another Day in Paradise.

The dark lyrics of In the air tonight on Disc two, about a lost love, thought to have been written by him at the end of his first marriage, (which clearly rocked him back at the time), was part genius singer, genius drummer and what would seem to be an autobiographical actor living through a bad personal experience.

Still, he has left us something truly wonderful on this DVD. The musical performances are fantastic, most notably topped with great sax solos by Gerald Albright. Helmed by director Hamish Hamilton, who worked wonders with Peter Gabriel's "Growing up Live" DVD in 2003, the video footage is likewise sweeping in its scope, covering the massive stage, loads of band members, and the vast audience present. Collins is enjoyable to watch, but so too is everyone else around him. The camera angles give you a superb shot of Collins all over the stage.

The DVD is also packed with bonuses. A few performances from the concert come with the "multi-angle" feature and it is used here to good effect. Most tracks are also accompanied by their original music videos, which are nice to finally have in a digital format. There are also several other rare live performances culled from the archives that really make this DVD a must-have for all Collins fans.

Great visuals and great music, along with tons of extras, make this DVD a great buy. This is an amazing concert - every single aspect of it. From beginning to end it was outstanding. Not just the music but the filming, backing singers, and supporting musicians. We will watch this over, and over again. A true performer, a master drummer and vocalist.

The sound and picture is simply fantastic. The DTS 5.1 surround is very well done and reproduces brilliantly to bring concert like sound to a living room. Also Dolby Surround 5.1 works very well.

It’s sad to see that Collins has chosen now to "retire"; he has always packed his shows with top-notch production, both in visuals and sound. His music will remain forever.
