Bee Gees - One Night Only - Collector's Edition (Eagle – Vision) Rs, 599/-

Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb were performing together from childhood but it was in Australia in 1960 that they were first billed as the Bee Gees. The band went on to become one of the most successful performing, recording and songwriting acts of all time. This full-length concert was shot at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 14th November 14, 1997 and is one of very few Bee Gees performances ever filmed, offering you 31 tracks, a few taken into medleys. But that’s okay isn’t it?

The Bee Gees supreme talent and polish is obvious from this performance. From this set, it was clear that Barry Gibb had as much command over his guitar as he did his voice (and hair). Even more surprising to me was that Maurice Gibb was a multi-instrumentalist and band-leader (on stage at least). The audio and video quality is good as you might expect a concert and taping at the MGM in Las Vegas would be. In summary, this may not produce many new BGs fans, but it is a fun reminder that the Bee Gees were fine song-writers and musicians.

I've never seen The Bee Gees live, ever. Remembered their music from the 80's but I'm an R&B hound. They appeared older and possibly more seasoned. The clarity and crispness of their voices was astonishing. You can just sit back close your eyes and as the brothers take the stage, they take you back to a wonderful era, where music was music, and harmonizing was the epic of being pleasurable. It's insane how these three brothers weathered the storm for so many years and still sound so good.

Sing along with The Bee Gees as they take you through their greatest hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, as they open up with You Should be Dancing, and go onto hit songs like Alone, Massachusetts, To Love Somebody, I’ve Gotta get a Message to You, the list goes on.

Amazing clarity of film and sound, makes watching this outstanding. The harmony for the Bee Gees is a joy, sounds like one voice. The Bee Gees perfected fraternal harmonies. Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb, don’t miss their tribute to brother Andy Gibb on the song Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away). Andy, who died at age 30, is well remembered with a minus one track played on the stage backed by the brothers and a beautiful visual set on the backdrop of the stage. The special family video footage of deceased younger sibling is a tear jerking moment. Totally mind blowing. Another highlight of the concert is guest appearance by multiple Grammy award winner Canadian songstress Celine Dion joining the brothers on Immortality an outstanding performance.

The Bee Gees sold over 220 million albums worldwide. In 2003 when Maurice suffered a heart attack, dying in Miami at age 53, Robin and Barry stopped recording after Maurice’s death, claiming that they were too devastated to continue. In 2012, Robin—Maurice’s twin brother—died at age 62 after a long battle with cancer.

A fabulous concert that also has songs written for and made hits by other artists, but never recorded by the Bee Gees themselves including unforgettable pieces like Islands in the Stream, Guilty, Heartbreaker, to their own hits like Night Fever/More Than A Woman, Still Waters, Lonely Days, New York Mining Disaster 1941, Too Much Heaven, And The Sun Will Shine, Nights on Broadway, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Heartbreaker, Guilty, Tragedy, I Started A Joke, Grease, Jive Talkin'. How Deep Is Your Love, among many others.

This is a DVD you will return to time after time, recorded when all three Bee Gees brothers were alive and well and in top form performing at the peak of their powers. They sing all their hits and a few of their later catalogue such as One which sound as good as anything else on this excellent DVD. If you like the Bee Gees and their music this is a "must have" for your collection. The Bee Gees always managed to sound as good live as on their actual recordings, a fact that few other performers can live up to in my experience.
