Rock You Like A Hurricane – Unauthorized - Scorpions (Import)

DVDs about rock bands that scream "Unauthorized" are risky. You really don’t know what you get, sometimes you get some outstanding stuff, sometimes pirated stuff often not worth your time.

This DVD is a bit better but still only for the most die-hard and serious Scorpions fan out there. The entire content of this DVD deals with Scorpions interviews done in 1990/91. There is no information beyond 1991.

Picture-wise this is pretty good considering the time it was recorded. Content wise it cheats the buyer. Firstly, the back of the DVD case (lower right hand corner) lists the running time at 90 minutes. But when you actually play the whole disc you are left with just 50 minutes. Secondly, there are no complete songs here, what you get instead is about a minute or 2 of live or music video footage. The credits also have the Discography of the band with images of cassette covers of Scorpions albums.

As for the concert footage it is sprinkled about and only whets your appetite for more as the songs are such classics you would want to watch the entire song. You could easily say that the total video footage is around 10 minutes with the audio and video quality not really that good. What's shown is fan footage shot in 1990. Earlier portions appear to be sound checks. Later clips are actual concert footage most likely from the Crazy World tour.

The rest of the DVD is interview footage which is really interesting, though a bit badly edited with some cuts coming after a the female interviewer asks a question and then the camera cuts away as the band member begins to answer. The interviews with the Scorpions pan over about their music and careers, All the interviews are one on one. Most of the time you don't even hear the question, but then it’s a pirated DVD. Although the woman who conducts the interviews is pretty bad (Matthias even asks her at one point if she "is serious"), the answers from the band offer deep insights into their intelligence, their commitment to their music, their deep friendship, their thoughts on world peace, etc. Rudolf and the other band members describe each other, name their favorite songs/albums/tours, etc. and you get a real feel for their personalities. The guys are all smiles and you see them at their youngest best. It’s a great feeling.

The band members namely Rudolf Schenker gets the most interview time, Matthias Jabs is second, while Richard Wright, Nick Mason and Klaus Meine are about equal.

If you don’t mind the few minutes of concert snippets and some fair interview footage, then it’s a good DVD to tune in even though it was 50 min. instead of 90 minutes.

All that apart, the German heavy metal warriors the Scorpions have been one of the world's leading hard rock bands since they first broke through to international audiences in the late '70s, and this unauthorized documentary on the group takes a look at their long road to fame and fortune.

If you are a die-hard Scorpions fan, this is a "must-have".Truly a MUST for anybody who wants to get to know the men behind the music that today is rated pure classic rock. This is a rare DVD for those looking for the old show of bands 70s, 80s. Fans around the world are sure to love this one of a kind tribute to one of the world's greatest bands.
