A-Ha – Homecoming: Live at VallHall

After a seven year absence from the music scene, when many thought A-Ha had vanished, the band made a comeback with the album, ‘Minor Earth Major Sky’ and it was a turning point for the band members and fans who took a second look and realised the band was back with brand new material.

The band was founded in 1982 by Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, Magne Furuholmen, and Morten Harket. They split around 1994 with the individual members going their own way and on with their lives. It was only a matter of time before the band would re-form for a new album and a concert in their hometown. Even today 24 years later as we write this, A-Ha`s global fan base has not diminished at all and fans still want to see the band perform, no matter where they are.

Having completed a successful tour of Japan and Europe, A-HA returned to their native Norway for two sell-out shows at Oslo's new football arena; Vallhall. This DVD is a recording of the sensational first night on the 24th March 2001. The other show was on 25th March 2001.

Drawing on their six previous studio albums this DVD features A-HA's biggest and best loved hits from their number one smash hit The Sun Always Shines On TV, Hunting High and Low, Cry Wolf, James Bond theme The Living Daylights and ending on their breakthrough Take on Me among many others. That said, the track-listing contains an equal sprinkling of greatest hits, and brings us up to date with several more reflective and personal tracks from their critically acclaimed, highly successful last album ‘Minor Earth Major Sky’. The newer tracks sit particularly well alongside the classics, and you can detect the trio's joy of being able to perform the newer songs such as Little Black Heart and Summer Moved On live. The band, known for their brand of synth pop, is in full power here, with the lively pop synthesizer music of Cry Wolf or The Sun Always Shines on TV, and at times takes on a different tangent bring in some variation to their sound.

More on the concert and one can conclude that Homecoming is a very simple affair, no fancy lighting or special effects, with a plain stage set, nothing very outlandish. About the boys, we see the same looks with the music having changed just a little. The concert has a distinct feel of 1985 about it.

Many who grew up listening to A-Ha, will still adore the guys just as much they did when they were teens. You will never be disappointed when it comes to A-ha concerts. It is a big line of hits, one after the other. This is a great show to watch and knowing very well there aren’t’ to many concert DVDs of A – Ha, this DVD would make a good present for a fan.

Presented in stunning Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on DVD, ‘Homecoming’ is packed Special Features including 'The Seven Year Itch', an insightful documentary looking at what Morten, Pal and Magne were up to during the band's 7 year hiatus previous to their 2000 comeback. We learn of Morten's continued success as a solo artist and his dedication to nature reserve and humanitarian causes, Magne's worldwide success as an artist and film composer and Pal's critically acclaimed work in the band Savoy. Also included are with the group, unreleased live footage, 4 striking promo videos from their then new album ‘Minor Earth Major Sky’ namely music videos of Summer Moved On, Minor Earth Major Sky, Velvet and I Wish I Cared. There’s also loads of backstage and after show party footage and a biography of the band in a 20-minute interview presented by Ian Wright. There`s an 4 page colour booklet enclosed, but the booklet is just a load of credits for the concerts and various filmed sections. Nevertheless, it's a package that no self respecting A-HA fan should want to miss out on.
