LongPlay Album - Stars on 45 (Vol II) - Various Artists

This was thesecond album by the Dutch sound-alike studio group Stars on 45 released on the CNR Records label in The Netherlands in August 1981. In India it was released under the label MIL (Music India Limited) and received critical appreciation for the music and non – stop continuity.

The album has four medleys, three on Sid One and two medley on Side Two.

Side One opens up with songs which combined excerpts from 60's and 70s hits mainly from the rock, pop, soul, R & B, and folk song genres. It begins with the catchy Star Wars theme, moving to a medley like Kung Fu Fighting, Layla, Alright Now, Fire, Ma Baker, theme song of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly to the Mash theme song, an overture from the musical Tommy, interspersed with the Stars on 45 song ending with the Bette Davis Eyes and Eve of the War. There are a few other notable songs too.

Medley two spins off with The Temptations, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Sly & the Family Stone’s Dance to the Music, America’s A Horse with no Name, The Mama’s and the Papas’ with Monday, Monday and California Dreaming, Scott McKenzie’s the very beautiful San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair), Smokey Robinson and The Miracles with Tears of a Clown, The Supremes Stop! In The Name of Love, Neil Diamond in all his glory with Cracklin Rosie, Manfred Mann’s Do Wah Diddy Diddy, The Four Tops with the peppy Reach Out I'll Be There and finally Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, among a few others.

The last medley is once again retro stuff of the 50s and 60s with songs like Tears of a clown, Love Child, Reflections, Baby Love, Where did our love go, You keep me hanging on and Ain’t no mountain high enough, among others.

Side Two has 15 beautiful songs of ABBA perfectly mixed to dance to. You have Voulez-Vous, SOS, Bang-A-Boomerang, Money Money Money, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Fernando, The Winner Takes It All, Super Trouper, coupled with a reworked version of the Stars On 45 Theme which became another UK #2 hit and indeed a Top 10 hit single in most parts of Europe.

With a lot to listen to, this album is a must on your list for that upcoming party night.
