Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb

1978's ‘Shadow Dancing’ is another lost and forgotten gem from the Gibb brothers, although it is the solo work of Andy Gibb. The brothers do contribute to the album as majority of the album is produced and written by older brothers and song writing genius, Barry Gibb, who also is the only surviving of the four brothers.

On this album, Andy shows his vocal skills and although the brothers together made a great impact on anyone who heard them, Andy would be the stronger singer out of the 4 brothers.

He takes on a few songs in a slow up-tempo mood with good string section, instrumentation keeping everything as it should be, a slow paced album. This mega selling album kicks off with the brilliant title track that topped the charts for 8 weeks way back in 1978. This song represents the cream of the disco genre - melodic, passionate and hypnotic.

The 10 songs, (7 written by his brothers) on the list had a few hits, but the others that made the pack include the stunning, Good Feeling, probably one of the best Gibb produced track of all time, the awesome One More Look At The Night, a smooth jam Fool For A Night that has a nice Caribbean feel with good lyrical contribution to it. This mega selling album kicks off with the brilliant title track that topped the charts for 8 weeks way back in 1978. This song represents the cream of the disco genre - melodic, passionate and hypnotic.

The ballads are breathtaking from the essential version (the Bee Gees did a nice version, too) of Melody, to the album's closer, Why, Waiting For You. You can feel emotion in Andy's voice on the song the tearjerker (Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away.

To sum it up, Shadow Dancing was, indeed, Andy's best work. And that goes for the Gibb music which anyone would agree is timeless. Whereas brother Barry is now the only surviving member of the Gibb dynamo, Maurice and Robin are with Andy gone. They are all sorely missed. Andy surely left us too soon.

As with brothers Maurice and Robin, Andy came and went far too soon. Andy stamps his own personality on this classy and engaging collection of superb songs.
