Voulez Vous – ABBA

Songs by ABBA are always welcomed wherever you may go, and their albums are loved by all. Continuing from where we started we bring another classic album from the 70s, 1979’s ‘Voulez-Vouz’, a polished disco sound that worked well on the dance floor.

ABBA's sixth studio album, ‘Voulez-Vous’, rose to the top of the charts with a solid line-up of songs including the title track Voulez-Vous and its infectious oooo aha sing-along.

As Good As Newopens up with a sharp vocal twist and its fast paced melody followed by the title track Voulez-Vous with uptempo drive and energy is the perfect sing-along song to its French title meaning Do you want (to)?". Its exceptional rhythm and vocal harmonies was one of ABBA’s most disco-esque tunes and will see you pulling towards the dance floor. The tempo steadies as the smooth I Have A Dream moves on. Many fans have loved this beautiful piece of work for its amazing lyrical quality and depth of singing. Frida’s lead vocal is heavenly and arguably one of her very best. The chorale backing is sensational. Another masterpiece comes in Angel Eyes a song that will compel you to sing along to the chorus.

Moving to a few places in the LP, we have Chiquitita a beautiful ballad with a catchy chorus and a brilliant piano backup, sweet and just perfect for a quiet listen. Does Your Mother Know? emphasizes the playful side of the record, touched up with a rock-influenced edge, while the piano-driven If It Wasn’t For the Nights narrates a lover who dreads meeting her partner at night. The lyrics are harmoniously fun loving as they go…. “I’d have courage left to fight if it wasn’t for the nights,”

The King Has Lost His Crown, a slow to fast piece with a mid tempo rhythm is a good story telling saga if you listen to the lyrics carefully. Lastly, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)is pure ABBA gold and was an instant hit, years later brilliantly sampled by Madonna on her song Hung Up. Other tracks on the album include Lovers (Live A Little Longer), Kisses Of Fire.

Overall, ‘Voulez-Vous’is a solid release with several memorable songs that are perfectly suited to the disco era. As ABBA got better with each album their fans wanted more and more from them. This is a great album from the last of the 70s and worthy of being a disco favorite for every DJ.
